Brief Biography:
After obtaining my PhD in 2006 I obtained a position as lecturer in anatomy at the University of Liverpool (UK). In this position I continued my research in the field of functional anatomy and human evolution, with a series of peer reviewed publications on primate locomotion. Afterwards I took up a position as research policy advisor at the Research Foundation Flanders to get more insight in research policy and national and european funding mechanisms. In 2010 I obtained a position as professor in Anatomy at the University of Leuven. In this position I lead a research team of several PhD students and manage the human body donation programme of the university. I am also responsible for the anatomy courses in the bachelor degree for medical students. Next to administrative and teaching duties, my research activities constitute an important part of my current position. Ongoing projects are in the field of comparative anatomy, form-function relationships and functioning of the thumb joint.
