Dr. Prasad Wadegaonkar

Brief Biography:


Dr. Prasad A. Wadegaonkar has been undergone specialized training for animal tissue culture and production of biological at various institutes and industrial establishments by DBT such as Central Research Institute, Kasauli, Pasteur Institute, Coonoor, National Centre for Cell Sciences (formally – NFATCC), Pune, Enterovirus Research Centre, Mumbai and IPVE, Moscow. He has established Bioprocess Laboratory, integrating, microbial, plant tissue culture and animal tissue culture facility for research in screening, optimization, scale up and testing. He has setup Bioinformatics centre of BTISNet and integrated in siliaco and wet lab facility for search for apoptosis inducers (UGC MRP 2009-12). He is also involved in teaching Bioprocess Technology to post graduate students for last 17 years. Dr. Wadegaonkar and his group at Bioprocess Laboratory, Department of Biotechnology, Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University has developed root organ cultures of some medicinal plants such as Withania somnifera (Wadegaonkar et al. 2006, UGC-MRP No. 3-35/2004), Catharanthus roseus, Rauwolfia serpentina (Ph.D. programs), Artemisia annua (DRDO-LSRB MRP No. 103/FS/2006). Low cost reactor for root organ culture has been designed and tested successfully. The patent on “A reactor for root organ culture” has been filed in the name of Department of Biotechnology, GOI and SGB Amravati University (#1472/DEL/2005).
