Dr. Claudia Andreu-vieyra

Brief Biography:

I have over 15 years of research experience in ovarian and uterine function and dysfunction and in its control by hormones in different model systems. I have been trained in different aspects of cellular and molecular endocrinology, gene targeting, functional genomics, epigenomics and bioinformatics. I began my career as a research scientist in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I obtained my B.Sci. and M.Sci. degrees in animal physiology. Upon graduation, I undertook a M. Phil. degree in Developmental Biology at the University of Manchester, UK, under the supervision of Dr. Susan Kimber and Dr. John Aplin. I then moved to Canada, where I obtained my Ph.D. degree in Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology at the University of Calgary, Dept. of Biological Sciences, under the supervision of Dr. Hamid Habibi. In 2003 I began my training as a postdoctoral fellow in functional genomics of the reproductive tract under the supervision of Martin Matzuk at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. In 2009 I was recruited by Dr. Peter Jones, one of the world’s leaders in cancer epigenetics, as a senior postdoctoral fellow at the University of Southern California Norris Cancer. Since joining the Cancer Center, I have explored the role of epigenetics in the regulation of the expression of hormone-responsive genes and the role of the chromatin remodeler ARID1A in the pathogenesis of ovarian clear cell carcinoma. Recently, I have become interested in effective scientific communication, and, as part of a continuing education program, I am currently pursuing a certificate in Essential Writing Skills from AMWA. As I continue my quest to becoming an independent investigator, I am looking forward to integrating the various aspects of my training into projects with translational potential.

I believe that the idea behind WebmedCentral is a much needed breath of fresh air for the Science publishing industry. As a published author and scientific reviewer, I can certainly appreciate not only the empowerment that this model provides but also the responsabilities and obligations associated with it.
