Prof. Johnson Stanslas

Brief Biography:


Johnson Stanslas obtained his PhD in the field of Cancer Pharmacology from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. He carried out his doctoral research under the supervision of Prof Malcolm Stevens. Dr Stanslas’s field of expertise is Pharmacology and Therapeutics. He is actively involved in the discovery and preclinical development of new anticancer, antiinflammatory (for allergic asthma), antiviral (antidengue) and antimalarial agents. He is the leader of the research group ‘Cancer Research and Drug Discovery (CRDD)’. To date he has been successful in discovering lead anticancer molecules for the treatment of breast, prostate and colon cancers. His research also extends to efficacy and toxicity studies of cytotoxic and molecular targeted agents in cancer patients with the intention of translating the laboratory findings to the clinic for improvement of cancer management. Translational research in neuroscience, particularly in personalising drugs for Parkinson’s Diseases and stroke is currently being actively pursued via the Neuroscience Cluster of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He frequently evaluates local and international grant proposals. He has been a reviewer for many international journals of diverse fields. He is a member of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), British Association for Cancer Research (BACR), European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) and Malaysian Oncological Society (MOS).
