Dr. Luis Eduardo Quintas

Associate Professor
IInstitute of Biomedical Sciences, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)

Brief Biography:

I am a biochemical pharmacologist of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). I did the Master in Pharmacology and PhD in Biophysics in 2001 at UFRJ and a postdoctoral training in the University of Toledo, USA, working on P-type ATPases and the effect of cardiotonic steroids on Na/K-ATPase-mediated signaling transduction. I am now a permanent member of the Graduate Program of Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry aiming at pharmacological screening for the development of new drug candidates as well as Na/K-ATPase-mediated signaling.

Academic positions:

Associate Professor in Pharmacology at UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Research interests:

Cardiotonic steroid-induced Na/K-ATPase-mediated intracellular signaling cascades; pathophysiological regulation of P-type ATPases; pharmacological screening for the development of new drug candidates

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

In the beginning I thought that it was strange the idea of reviewing the work after publishing, but now I consider this a really good innovative idea, giving the author more independence and credibility. Considering that most traditional journals reject a high percentage of good but with insuficcient "subjective impact" manuscripts, WebmedCentral turns out as one of the best opportunities to expose this repressed demand.
