Dr. Hany Lashen

Brief Biography:


Hany Lashen obtained his MB, BCh degree from Ain Shams University, Egypt in 1982.  He came to the UK in 1986 to pursue his postgraduate training.  He became a member of the Royal college of Obstetrician and Gynaecologists in 1991, completed his postgraduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and developed special interest in Reproductive Medicine He embarked on a research programme regarding the ovarian response to controlled stimulation in 1994 that culminated in the award of a MD degree in 2000 from Birmingham University.  He was appointed into a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to associate professor in Europe and USA) post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by the University of Sheffield, and Consultant in Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine.  He has an international reputation in the field of Reproductive Medicine.

He published widely in several aspects of reproductive medicine and gynaecology and contributed articles to several books and review journals.

He has several research programmes and interests in the following aspects of Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine: The interaction between genetics, development and the environment on ovarian development, ovarian reserve and reproduction, impact of energy balance especially overweight and underweight on reproductive performance (including fetal development) of women, ovarian response to simulation and protocol development in relation to the use of GnRH agonists and antagonists and poor responders, impact of anthropometry on ovarian response to controlled simulation,  endocrinological metabolic, social and developmental aspects of polycystic ovary syndrome, hirsutism, and the endocrinological and metabolic aspects of idiopathic intracranial hypertension. Pelvic pain especially in relation to endometriosis and pelvic congestion syndrome.  He also has secondary interest in the Psychological aspects of infertility.  His research interest with regard to reproductive surgery lies in the impact of hysterectomy on urinary and bowel function which he carries out in collaboration with Gastroenterologists and Urogynaecologists colleagues.
