With the growing market for pet turtles, veterinarians are confronted with new demands. Owners or breeders of turtles generally know that these species are temperature-dependent in terms of sex determination, but lack specific knowledge on how it works. - Fecal E. coli bacteria from pigs can potentially be transmitted to humans via meat. Certain strains could establish in human gut and cause disease.- They could also serve as reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes, and transmit these to bacteria harmful to humans, making antibiotics ineffective.- Therefore, for prudent use of antibiotics, it is important to monitor the properties of these bacteria in different geographic areas of the world. The present study of E. coli from 113 pigs in Grenada showed 100% resistance to tetracycline among 10 antibiotics, and some strains were potentially harmful. Disease conditions, including Coonhound paralysis, acute canine polyradiculoneuropathy (ACP), and cauda equina neuritis do occur in animals naturally from time to time. The experimental induction of paralysis in chickens with certain strains of Campylobacter jejuni, and the recent observation of Toxoplasma-induced ACP raise the possibility that peripheral nerve disease via immunologic mechanisms, induced by microorganisms, may occur in animals naturally. Experimental studies have indicated that antigens responsible for production of cross-reacting antibodies that cause neurological injury may be present in unrelated bacterial pathogens such as C. jejuni and Brucella melitensis. The effect of oral administration of raw camel milk (5 ml/kg b.wt.) on ethanol– and aspirin–induced gastric ulcers was tested in rats. Oral administration of camel milk in rats with ethanol–induced gastric ulcer, significantly (P < 0.05) redudced the number of long ulcers, average length of ulcers, ulcer index and the volume of gastric juice. The total protein was significantly (P < 0.05) increased and the pH of gastric juice was not significantly changed. The curative ratio was 70.70% in camel milk treated group compared to 45.12% in ranitidine-treated rats. Oral administration of camel milk in rats with aspirin–induced gastric ulcers exhibited, significantly (P < 0.05), same actions with curative ratio of 65.03% compared to 34.03% in ranitidine-treated rats. Effect of UMMB supplementation on rumen profile in buffalo calves was undertaken with the objectives to study the effect of UMMB on rumen microbiology and rumen metabolites. Eight apparently healthy male buffalo calves of 10 to12 months age and weighing between 100 to 150 kg were used as experimental animals. They were divided in to control and treatment groups consisting of 4 animals in each group. The animals of group I were kept as control for normal study and the animals of group II were supplemented with UMMB ad-lib. Rumen liquor samples were collected before feeding (0 hr) and at 3 hr after feeding for 3 consecutive days after a period of microbial adaptation. The results revealed that there was (p&lt;0.05) increase in total bacterial count viable bacterial count and total protozoal count in UMMB supplemented group compared to control. Rumen pH, concentration of total volatile fatty acids, molar proportion of propionic acids, total nitrogen and ammonia nitrogen also showed significant increase in group II however molar proportion of acetic acid and butyric acid significantly decreased in group supplemented with UMMB. It can be concluded from the present investigation that oral supplementation of UMMB enhanced the microbial population and improved the concentration of rumen metabolites.
