Brief Biography:


Prem Arora, MD, FAAP •Graduated from medical school in India (Maulana Azad Medical College) in 2002. •Residency training in India (Maulana Azad Medical College) and in United states (Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit Medical Center, Children’s Hospital of Michigan). •Fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine (Wayne State University School of Medicine, Children’s Hospital of Michigan). •Was elected as Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2011. •Editorial board member of the ‘Journal of Neonatal Biology,’ an open access, peer-reviewed journal covering fetal and neonatal diseases. •Peer-reviewer for various prestigious internationally circulated journals in the field of pediatrics and neonatology such as, Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Clinical Pediatrics, BMJ Case Reports, Research and Reports in Neonatology, Pediatric Health, Medicine & Thearpeutics, and British Journal of Medical Practitioners. •Has published multiple articles in peer reviewed journals in fields of pediatrics, neonatology, and nutrition. •Presentations at major national and international scientific conferences in pediatrics such as, PAS (Pediatric Academic Societies annual meeting), Annual National Scientific Conference of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Midwest Conference on Perinatal Research, PEDICON (annual scientific meeting of Indian Academy of Pediatrics), and the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Annual Meeting. •Listed in Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare 2011-2012 -8th Edition. Recipient of “The Deepak Kamat, Fellow of the Year 2011” Award by the faculty of Department of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Michigan and “The Resident Neonatology Research award 2010” by the faculty of Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. Recipient of Patient’s Choice Awards in 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011, and America’s Most Compassionate Doctor recognition in 2011. •Active in both basic sciences (endothelial progenitor cells) and clinical research on neonatal transport, pulse wave velocity in preterm newborns, and the association of pneumatoceles with respiratory infection. At present, I work in the division of neonatology at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Children’s Hospital of Michigan and Hutzel Women’s Hospital, Detroit, MI, USA.

*Basic Sciences: Endothelial progenitor cell profile of newborns across different gestational ages *Clinical Research: Pulse wave velocity and augmentation index in premature and term infants; neonatal transport; association between pneumatoceles and respiratory infections in NICU patients; role of early initiation of caffeine in extremely low birth weight newborns

 

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:


I strongly favour WebmedCentral's unique idea of post publication peer review after initial publication of the biomedical scientific content without any pre-publication peer review. Many well conducted studies do not reach the readers and get filtered during editrial and peer-review processes for various reasons including the limitations on the number of articles a journal can accept or publish due to space constraints; poor understanding of the idea by the peer-reviewer assigned etc. Putting a manuscript on a broader platform for post-publication peer-review will not only improve the quality and fairness of the peer-review process, but will also bring many more studies into the attention of the readers.
