Research interests:

Her research focuses on molecular disease markers for Alzheimer's disease and frontotemporal dementia. Dr. Roberta Ghidoni, is participating in national and international projects on pathogenetic mechanisms triggering brain damage in neurodegenerative diseases and on molecular markers of disease onset and progression. Dr. Ghidoni contributed- in the last years- to the identification of biological and genetic markers for dementias. The two major recent translational scientific products are: 1) the establishment of a plasma progranulin protein cutoff level for a quick and inexpensive large-scale screening of carriers of progranulin mutations and for monitoring future treatments that might boost the level of this protein (Ghidoni et al Neurology 2008; Finch N et al Neurology 2011; Ghidoni et al. Neurodegenerative Diseases2011 inpress) 2) the establishment of an immunoproteomic assay for detection of the whole panel of abeta peptides in human CSF (Ghidoni et al. J Alzheimer’s Dis 2009; Albertini et al Proteomics Clin Appl 2010).

Any other information:

Dr. R. Ghidoni is participating in the Review process of Alzheimer’s Association for research grants evaluation. At present Dr. Roberta Ghidoni is a member of the Editorial Board of the following International peer reviewed scientific journals: Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, The International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine and Frontiers in Bioscience. She acts as Reviewer of international journals. She is collaborating with national and international experts in neurodegenerative diseases.
