Dr. Kyrre Kausrud

Researcher
University of California Santa Cruz
Kilpatrick lab, 332 Earth & Marine Sciences

Brief Biography:

Did my PhD at the university of Oslo, before moving to California working as a Postdoc. I have worked with a wide range of systems, from behavioural ecology to the impact of winter climate on the population dynamics of alpine ecosystems, the outbreak dynamics of forest pathogens and climate impact on bubonic plague reservoir dynamics. I enjoy a mixture of fieldwork and computer modeling.

Academic positions:

Ph.D. fellow at the Center for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis, the Nordic Center of Excellence in Biology, Oslo, Norway.

Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Dept. of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, CA, USA.

Research interests:

The interface between population dynamics and evolution, in particular in diseases with an environmental component.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

While my personal research has had nothing to do with mental health in humans, the interplay between health and culture is very much part of my core interests. A lot of decisions taken on the political level for reasons that are not perceived to be health-related do have important consequences for mental and physical health later on.

I am also interested in the application of human ecology on how social structures such as inequality and physical environments shape our behaviour, collaboration and mental states.
