HIV/AIDS continues to attract attention in Africa and its spread is also increasing. The role of nutrition in the management of HIV/AIDS has been recognized and this study addresses that. The study is therefore very relevant to the African setting where poverty and malnutrition are common. The paper can be published after correcting highlighted corrections. The conclusion should be rewritten. ROS has been observed before now as a contributing factor the progression of HIV infection and other chronic diseases.

The ref style is not consistent. In some cases, authors quoted the year of publication e.g [1995] and used numerical as well in the same ref [12] e.g Frank [1995] [12]. I am not sure if this is the format of the journal.

The Introduction should perhaps be a bit longer and involve some references of published data regarding HIV infection and antioxidant/redox status in patients or other experimental models.

The title is not fully appropriate and does not specifically address the content of the article. A more specific title is recommended. The authors do not test or use any antioxidant therapy, however both the title of the article and part of the abstract suggest they do.

There are several mistakes regardng English language and style. For example. "ROS have"  should be used instead of "has" and "Venous blood samples were taken" should stand instead of "was taken".

  • Experience and credentials in the specific area of science:

I am currently involved in several projects focused on the molecular and cellular mechanisms responsible for some of the most common adverse effects induced by antiretroviral therapy.

I have quite a lot of experience in research of oxidative stress, antioxidants and mitochondrial ROS.

If the data are not totally new compared to the ones in the literature, this manuscript shows that oxidative strss occurs in a cohort of 228 HIV-positive patients in Ghana. It demonstrates a correlation between MDA levels, serum vitamins C and E, blood SOD and GPx levels and CD4 counts.

There are some typos. For example:Abstract: "ROS has been implicated" instead of "ROS have been implicated"; in Methods: "PLWHAs were divided in three (3) groups" is better than "PLWHAs were staged in three (3) groups..".
