Colonic lipoma presented with attack of gastroenteritis: case report
Posted by Dr. Dnyanesh M Belekar on 30 Oct 2014 10:31:44 AM GMT Reviewed by Author Invited Reviewers

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

To report an uncommon case of large colonic lipoma whose presentation was confusing due to gastroenteritis attack.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

    Yes

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

    Yes

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    Yes

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    Not Applicable

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    Not Applicable

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

I have few of questions about the article as below -

    1) Why initially an ultrasonography of abdomen and pelvis was not carried out which is a basic, good & cost effective radiological investigation to diagnose various causes of abdominal pain instead of colonoscopy ?

    2) Intraoperatively, why the frozen section was not done if there was doubt of malignancy ?

    3) Was there really a need of transverse colectomy ?

    3) Whether the entire or partial transverse colectomy was done is not clear ?

    4) What type of anastomosis was done eg. End to End, single layer, hand sewn or otherwise is unclear ?

    5) Patient has not been followed up post discharge. What is the standard protocol..not mentioned ?

    6) What precautions taught to patient to prevent any further attack/s of gastroenteritis ?

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

No. As above questions need to be clarified.

  • Other Comments:
